The Foundation provides support to organizations that fall outside of its primary grantmaking program areas and criteria but are of special interest to the Board. Our Community funding focuses on two areas: local grantmaking and special opportunities.
Grants made under this program are generally one-year commitments, reviewed annually, and offered by invitation only. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals.

Local

The Foundation’s local grants support institutions and organizations in the counties of San Francisco, San Mateo, and Santa Clara—communities where the members of the Board live and work. The San Francisco Bay Area is a diverse and treasured place, and these organizations enhance the culture of the region, enrich the lives of its residents, and provide vital support to individuals in need.

Special Opportunities

The Foundation’s special opportunity grants are those made outside the Foundation’s program areas.
